About the Capodimonte Museum Walk in Naples
The Capodimonte Museum is one of Naples' treasure troves. Tucked into a verdant hill, just north of the city center, this former royal palace of the Bourbon kings of Naples (the Two Sicilies, as the empire was then called) during the 18th century boasts sprawling halls that are home to one of the greatest collections of Renaissance and Baroque art in the world. This three-hour walk is aimed at being an in-depth exploration of the collection, focusing on key pieces which represent important landmarks in painting style and technique. We will also undoubtedly discuss the reign of the Bourbons in Naples, as many of the grand dining and reception halls still remain intact, and there are many royal family portraits scattered throughout the collection.

Renaissance masterpieces of the Bourbon kings
Our pilgrimage to Capodimonte will include encounters with the greats of the Renaissance- Caravaggio, Titian, Simone Martini, and Raphael. Rarely visited by tourists and Italians alike, the Capodimonte offers us an exceptional opportunity to get close to these masterpieces and discuss their importance, significance, and beauty without distraction. Our visit will certainly touch on the history of the building and the collection, some of which originated in the Farnese family. We might also have the luck of visiting during one of the contemporary exhibits that the museum often hosts- the interplay between classically-beautiful Renaissance art and the modern is an intriguing juxtaposition.
A visit to the Capodimonte is perfect for connoisseurs of Neapolitan culture and for any traveler who wants to investigate one of the best museums in one of the most challenging (but rewarding) cities in Italy.
