In the company of an experienced Wall Streeter, this three-hour walk will focus on how New York began its commercial and financial dominance in the United States. We'll explore the origins of the stock exchanges and discuss the various booms and panics that plagued their early existence. We'll explore the role of Clearing and Settlement in the financial markets and discuss the innovations that allowed the markets to operate at the speed and volumes they do today. We'll visit the sites of the New York Stock Exchange, Morgan's Bank and the Federal Reserve Bank.
Since the Financial District is where New York City was first settled, we'll also be visiting sights of historical significance such as Fraunces Tavern, Federal Hall, Trinity Church and the Great Wall Street Fire. We'll finish out tour with a stop at the site of the World Trade Center and a visit to St Paul's Chapel, the focal point of the rescue efforts after September 11th.
