This is a four-hour excursion to Pompeii from Naples or the Amalfi Coast in the company of an archaeologist or classical historian. Depending on the traffic and the time it takes you to get from your hotel to the site, we will spend about three hours traipsing through the ruins of Pompeii. You will gain a good overview of the city and its importance to archaeology. If its open, we will make a special visit to the Villa of the Mysteries at the end of our visit, where we will view some of the best-preserved Roman frescos, before returning to your hotel.
Note: This excursion can be arranged for clients arriving in Naples from Rome by train, in which case your docent will be waiting for you on the train platform in Naples and the car service at the ready to take you to the site. For this, we recommend that clients take the early morning Eurostar train (0745) from Rome's Termini Station. You can book this directly through Context, by clicking on TRANSPORTATION at the left. You will want the Eurostar to Naples.
Note: If you plan to arrive in Pompeii directly using your own transportation or the Sunday morning Eurostar direct from Rome, the tour can be done without the assistance of a car service. Please note if this is your intention in the "special requests" box below, and we will adjust the price accordingly.
