In our opinion, it is important to couple a visit to Pompeii with a trip to the Archaeological Museum of Naples, as the two sites are perfectly complementary. This full-day, in the company of a classical historian, archaeologist, or art historian is designed to give you and your family an understanding of ancient Roman civilization and its development around the Bay of Naples. The walk is designed to focus on including children in the discussion and activities.
The day begins with either a pick up at your hotel if you are staying in the Naples area or a rendez-vous on the platform in the Naples train station if you are arriving by train from Rome or elsewhere. We then head up to the Pompeii excavations for a 3 hour site visit, including (if open) the Villa of the Mysteries. Here your docent will mix the explanations with games, with the aid of a specially designed workbook given to each child. This will provide a base of learning for both adults and children alike. After this, we return to Naples for lunch (usually pizza in a real Neapolitan pizzeria), a constitutional stroll through the heart of the city, and a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Naples, one of the most stunning museums in all of Europe that will round out your understanding of Pompeii and ancient Roman civilization in general. If time allows, we'll continue the activities also in the Museum.
Note: This tour is priced for five people; but we allow up to seven. There is a €20 charge per person above two.
Note: It is possible for us to arrange this itinerary for clients arriving from Rome by train. For this, we recommend that you take the early Eurostar at 7:25 AM from Rome Termini. Context can provide these tickets for you. Simply make your request by using the the CONCIERGE SERVICES menu.
