Context:Paris' Architectural Drawing Workshop is a hands-on tutorial in the basic method of architectural sketching. It is led by one of the professional architects in our network and uses Paris' fantastic wealth of architecture as its subject matter. It therefore is an excellent way to learn about Parisian art and architecture--and by extension Parisian history and culture--in a manner that is very different than participating in a traditional walking seminar.
The workshop begins with the grand Cathedral of Notre Dame, located on the Ile de la Cite. Sitting on the 'parvis' in front of the Cathedral, your docent will begin with an overview of the history and development of architectural drawing. After a brief introduction to the method of architectural sketching and how this tool allows us to see Paris in a very different way, we will begin sketching.
After our time at Notre Dame, we'll continue on, making our way to other important buildings and monuments in the city center. Throughout our walk, we'll spend as much time as the group would like sketching individual subjects; but part of the purpose of the workshop is to allow you to treat several monuments. The exact itinerary of this seminar is flexible, and can be altered according to your specific interests. Please use the space below to share any information that will help us design your itinerary.
This workshop is open to participants of all artistic ability. In fact, non artists are strongly encouraged to participate, with the philosophy that drawing allows us to understand the city in an entirely different manner than simply talking/lecturing. This is a great experience for families.
Our docent will come with drawing materials, should you need them. If you have your own sketchpad and pencils, feel free to bring them along if you'd like.
The base price of this program is set for a group of six people maximum. We occasionally will allow groups of seven or eight people, for which we charge an additional 20 Euros per person. This will be calculated in your "shopping cart" as you request this walk.
