Rouen
DURATION: 5 or 8 hours
PRICE: From €470 per group (excluding transportation)

The historical capital of Normandy and once prosperous city of Medieval Europe, Rouen is known for its many monuments and architectural treasures. Its streets are lined with medieval half-timbered houses, its magnificent cathedral that inspired Monet, numerous picturesque churches, and other memorable sights. In the company of a true medievalist, you will discover the historical legacy of this city also brought about by famous figures as William the Conqueror, Joan of Arc, Corneille, and Flaubert.
You will visit the Rouen Cathedral of Notre- Dame, whose construction was finished in the 13th century. The tallest, and most noticeable part of the cathedral is the Tour de Beurre (the butter tower), which was completed in the 16th century, and during that time, was actually the tallest building in the world. The cathedral has a great history, and is the burial place of the heart of Richard the Lionheart, and also served as inspiration for Claude Monet.
The historic streets and squares attest to the wealth of Rouen in the past, but nothing more so than the Le Gros Horloge, the elegant gilded clock and its Rennaisance tower donated to the city by the town councillors in the 16th century, and set in the middle of the main street. The city is also known as "the city of spires" and you will also visit the churches of Saint-Maclou, the Abbey Church of Saint-Ouen, and of course the modern Church of Joan of Arc with its magnificent 16th-century stained-glass windows, next to the site where Joan was burnt at the stake. The tower where Joan was imprisoned, the gothic Palace of Justice and the delightful Aitre Saint-Maclou, once a medieval mass-grave, will also be on the route.
