Wines of Italy, an Introduction
DURATION: 3 hours
PRICE: €270 per group, excl wine/appetizers

Our Wine Walk is led by a trained sommelier who, in the course of visiting 2 different, very characteristic wine bars, or enoteche, in the center of Rome, will explain the history of Italian winemaking. S/he will help you navigate wine lists and explain the character of each region. In pairing a selection of wines with appetizers, the group will have the opportunity to explore the local region around Rome or, instead, go farther afield to sample wines from Tuscany, Sicily, or Le Marche. Although you should go home knowing the difference between a Chianti and a Fiano, the emphasis is on learning to enjoy Italian wines and observing, through tasting, how they reflect and encapsulate Italian culture itself.
Our Wine Walk lasts three hours and takes place during the early evening hours. We usually try to start with whites at the first stop, then reds at the second, with appetizers to keep us going all along.
The cost of the tour does not include the wine and appetizers themselves. The group will need to pay for these at the time of the tour, depending on the number of people and your specific tastes. Your docent will guide you through this, and often part of our lecture revolves around discovering some great value wines.
The price of this itinerary is calculated for a six-person group. On occasion we will allow for private itineraries to include up to eight people. There is a 30 Euro per person surcharge for each person above six people.
