Tour Description
Pompeii offers kids an unparalleled view into ancient history. Frozen in time and wonderfully preserved, it is one of the few places in the world where ancient civilization comes to life so vividly. In this full-day Pompeii for Kids Tour, a day trip from Naples, we dive deeply into the ruins of Pompeii as well as the Archaeological Museum in Naples. This is a fantastic way to get the most out of a visit to Pompeii with kids.

NOTE: This tour includes a car service that will pick you up at your accommodation in Naples.  Please tell us your hotel or apartment address in the 'Additional Details' box while adding the tour to your shopping cart.

Pompeii for Kids Tour

On the drive out to the site of Pompeii, our guide will provide historical background that will set up the context for understanding the site and what we will see later at the Archaeological Museum in Naples. Upon arriving, we will move swiftly through the ancient cobblestoned roads, exploring the homes, temples, shops, civic buildings, and public spaces that intricately illustrate everyday activities in the city. We will explore the similarities and differences between life in ancient Pompeii and modern-day family life.

Naples Archeological Museum

Leaving the site by the early afternoon, we will return to Naples, by car, where we will enjoy lunch in a small, non-touristy restaurant in the city center, followed by a short stroll through the center, poking our head into a few churches and providing a short synopsis of the history of the city. The group will then head to the Naples Archeological Museum, one of the greatest collections of ancient art and artifacts in the world, where we will link back to connections with Pompeii while viewing the colorful frescoes, mosaics, and statues unearthed during the excavations, begun in the 18th century by envoys of the Bourbon kings of Naples. These artifacts provide vivid visual examples of the Pompeiians and their life, allowing for a full understanding of the culture of the time.

By the end of the excursion, the whole family will have gained a deeper understanding of the ancient site of Pompeii and its unmerciful fate. The kids can take back home unique and fun memories of long-gone history, and, naturally, some mouth-watering gelato as well.

Fiorella was absolutely fabulous. Her breadth of knowledge and enthusiasm made the trip the highlight of our entire visit to Italy. She made the trip both very informative and great fun. She was especially great with our kids and their friends. Just as our friends recommended Fiorella to us, we would do the same to anyone looking to take this trip. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our entire day!
Fiorella was very warm and welcoming. She moved along quickly enough to keep my 4-year old engaged, but added enough information to keep my husband and older daughter, 7, interested. We all learned so much! My family really connected with Fiorella. She showed us where to get some fabulous gelatto, and when the baby, riding in my backpack, got some on her face, Fiorella even wiped her face for me, as I couldn't see or reach. Fiorella was very patient with us (children 7, 4, and 2!) and so very generous with her time. She was willing to work with how our children were feeling and adjust our schedule accordingly. Fiorella was funny and engaging and really knew a lot about Pompeii and the finds in the archaeological museum. She was so very helpful with navigating us through Naples, working around my daughter's gluten intolerance, and even suggesting activities for future visits. What is also great is that Fiorella seemed to enjoy herself, as well! I cannot say enough good things about Fiorella and our wonderful tour. Definitely a highlight of our trip!
Maria was lovely a little quiet to start with and as our time proceeded she seemed more relaxed. This could have been because we had misjudged the weather and needed to make some quick purchases of some jackets. We had been to Pompeii previously though now having returned with Maria are certainly better informed and have a greater understanding of the events of Pompeii. Maria gave some options for lunch and we choose to go with her recommendation which was excellent and lovely pizza restaurant on the bay of Naples. After lunch we had a very informative and enjoyable time at the Archaeology Museum. Thank you Jane and Mark Lelliott
