Traveling to Ostia Antica by van after being met at our hotel by driver and our guide, Janet, was the perfect final Context tour of our week (4 tours altogether.). It was a beautiful but very hot day, and Ostia Antica was a great place to bask in history at a beautiful site without crowds, and with a guide who made it feel like we were spending the day with a friend. Very knowledgeable, with a gentle personality, she guided us through the ruins expertly, helping us to visualize Roman life centuries ago. She was very cognizant of the heat and designed our tour through the ruins to maximize what was saw but with thoughts toward finding shade when possible. We enjoyed a nice lunch together in the onsite café, which we did not know about in advance - a respite as it was air-conditioned! Janet went out of her way upon our return to the hotel to help us plan out what we would tackle seeing on our own the next day. As well, she helped us solve some other tourist-type issues, going above and beyond expectations. Our group of 6 friends was totally happy with each of our 4 Context tours - as one said, "Context is definitely the way to go!"
Livia was a wonderful guide - passionate, committed and what a treat to meet someone who worked on site and knew it so well....
This tour was so informative and in such a great setting. It was nice to escape the crowds of Rome and to learn of the life of ancient Romans among the ruins in a park-like setting. Consider creating an option to extend the tour for 2 more hours and include time for a break for lunch. In other words, we would have enjoyed spending a full day, rather than only a half day.
