You will begin at Via della Conciliazione, a modern processional road built by Mussolini in the 20th century, and from here, enter Bernini’s square, where your expert guide will go over the topography of the Vatican, and the precedents for the church that now stands there.

The Treasury Museum, which is often visited during this tour, does not sell advance tickets. In this case, you will be responsible for purchasing these tickets during the tour. Your guide will help you in this process.

We met Andrea Beth in St. Peter’s square, before heading in. She started right there with the history of the square and surrounding areas, including significant architectural information. She came prepared with several fact sheets and diagrams/photos to enhance what she was able to tell and show. I love to review reference guides and this just made it more enjoyable for me. Once into the Basilica and after visiting the Pietà, Andrea Beth took us through each chapel until we snuck up on the St. Peter’s Dome and the Baldacchino di San Pietro. This was such a spectacular way to see it for the first time, or anytime. We were fortunate to experience a mass and choir voices singing to really enhance the experience. After this, my wife had to sit down, due to having caught a cold during our first few days in Rome. Andria Beth found an appropriate chapel for her to have some quiet time while we finished the tour, including the grottoes. She made sure I took plenty of photos to share what my wife missed. As with our previous Context tours, Andrea Beth shares an infectious enthusiasm and vast knowledge of this subject. This too was an extremely enjoyable tour.
