Taste of Rome: A Holiday Stroll
About the Taste of Rome: A Holiday Stroll Walk in Rome
Rome is an exciting city to visit during the holiday season. During the whole of December and early January, the essence of the season is family, food and celebration. Romans flock to the festively lit historic center to buy gifts, to view the nativity scenes in its many churches, and to enjoy the much anticipated treats of the season together.
This holiday walk will touch on some of Italy’s holiday sweet traditions as we amble along, dipping in to small artisan shops and enjoying the aromas of fresh chestnuts roasted by street vendors. During our time together we will learn about and taste traditional sweets such as torrone, a sweet nougat confection typical throughout Italy during the holiday season, panettone, traditional sweet bread that finds its origins in Milan, and chocolate. Our docent, a food writer, chef or culinary educator, will lead us through the historical center with contextual information on their origins.
