About the Cucina Napoletana, Cooking in Naples Walk in Naples
Cucina Napoletana is an immersion in Neapolitan cuisine from the market to the table and a unique opportunity to experience a home-based cooking lesson. We will spend five hours together with our docent, a culinary expert, who will first lead us through one of the bustling markets found in the center of Naples, then up the funicular to the home of Signora Annamaria, a native who will share the secrets of Neapolitan cuisine and whose kitchen has a splendid view over the bay of Naples. There, she and our docent will lead us through a cooking lesson before we all sit down to enjoy the fruits of our labour.
In the market, our docent will explain the local seasonal products of vegetables, fruit, and seafood and we will get a personal experience of the lively and colorful character of Naples and Neapolitan cuisine. In the market, our docent will explain the local seasonal products of vegetables, fruit, and seafood and we will get a personal experience of the lively and colorful character of Naples and Neapolitan cuisine. From the market, the docent will accompany up to the Vomero hill by funicular (or by taxi if you prefer) to Annamaria's house where we will whet our appetites with an aperitif prepared by Annamaria before beginning on the cooking lesson using the ingredients we bought in the market. This experience provides a rare chance to be inside the home of a native who willingly shares her passion and love for her native cuisine learned through 70 years of experience.
Once we have finished cooking we will sit down to a convivial lunch with a menu based on traditional Neopolitan cuisine such as pacheri alle ricotta di bufula, zucchine alla scapece, and tiramisu' al limoncello, paired with wine from the Campania region.
Cucina Napolitana will not only give you a knowledge of the cuisine of Naples but also a hands-on experience of the techniques and customs involved, as well as the warm hospitality of the locals. The docent will prepare the recipes for you to take home.
Note: For private groups, there is an additional 20 euro per person charge for each additional person beyond the 430 euro base price, which is for a group of up to 3 people.
Please note that for private groups we can do seafood menus for an additional €10 per person, just specify this preference when placing your order and you will be charged accordingly.
Please note any food allergies or intolerances in the Special Requests box or your Travel Notes. Even in a small group we can work around restrictions (no gluten, no dairy, vegetarian, no seafood, etc), especially if notified in advance.
