The Finer Details
Arezzo reveals itself step by step, not all at once, and that is part of its quiet power. Meet in Piazza San Francesco and step inside the Basilica, where frescoes begin to anchor the city’s long story, guided by an expert who helps you see not just what is painted, but why it mattered.

From there, the streets open gently toward Santa Maria della Pieve and into Piazza Grande. The square’s trapezoidal shape feels unexpected, almost theatrical, shaped by centuries of adaptation rather than rigid planning. Here, stories of the Giostra del Saracino and scenes from Life is Beautiful bring together history, tradition, and cinema in one shared space.

Passing the house of Francesco Petrarca, the narrative shifts toward people and ideas that traveled far beyond Arezzo. The walk continues through the Prato and up toward the Medici Fortress, where the city’s strategic past meets open views and a slower rhythm. How does a place designed for defense become a space for reflection?

The final stretch draws together the Cathedral and San Domenico, both viewed from the outside yet rich in meaning. Architectural layers and artistic milestones come into focus, including Cimabue’s crucifix, which quietly reshaped how emotion could be expressed in art.

By the time the walk concludes near San Domenico, the city feels both clearer and more personal. The route connects major sites without rush or confusion, turning a compact town into a coherent story you can carry with you.

Yes, of course! We are happy to welcome families on our tours. While the content is designed for a general audience, our guides are great at keeping visitors of all ages engaged.
Arezzo's historic center is located on a hill, so this tour involves some uphill sections (about 1.5 km). The guide can stop and take breaks but the elevation cannot be avoided so this is to be kept in mind.
