Context Journeys are fully-planned trips that include hotel accommodation, all on-the-ground tours and logistics, and most meals. We run them as fixed group departures, though can often make them available privately upon request. You can see all of our currently available Journeys here.
Who leads your Context Journeys?
Like our other Context tours, Journeys are led by an expert in their field, whether art history, archaeology, cuisine, architecture, history, theology, or other. Many of them hold PhDs or other terminal degrees in their field and teach at the university level.

While group size varies by Journey, the maximum is generally between 10 and 18.

Unfortunately, this tour does not accommodate someone with these limitations. That said, we can work with you to organize a private version of the itinerary that includes all touring and local car service transportation. Please inquire for more information and pricing.
We can only accommodate guests 18 and older on these trips. If you're interested in booking a private departure date for your family, including children, please email us to inquire!

Of course! We'd be happy to help you add on other destinations either before or after your Journeys trip.
We require a deposit of $1,000 per person for Context Journeys to secure your spot. Deposits are payable by credit card and are non-refundable in the event of client cancellation. If Context is unable to run the trip, we would then refund your deposit.
If you would like a private room, we will add a single supplement to your order. Otherwise, we are happy to match you with a fellow traveler in a shared room.
The full payment is due 90 days before the tour starts. So, for a March departure date, your deposit is due in December. For the Mexico City Journey, January 13-17, 2022, the final payment deadline is 45 days prior to the tour, so December 1, 2021.
We can hold a guaranteed spot for you for 48 hours. After that, we'll have to release the hold.
Each Journey has a minimum number of signups needed to run. It can vary by trip, so please check the details for the Journey of specific interest to you.
Yes, if we are unable to confirm the tour your deposit will be refunded.
Your deposit is non-refundable once made. If you have to cancel, please let us know as early as possible in case we can work with you to rebook to another date or give your spot to someone on a waiting list
Guide tips are not included in the cost of your Context Journey. Tipping is always appreciated—although not obligatory. Context clients generally tip anywhere from $10 to $30 per person per day, depending on the quality of the experience and their tipping habits.
What else is not included? Any hidden costs?
The price of your Journey includes hotels, on-the-ground tours, and transport that are part of the daily itineraries, daily breakfasts and number of (but not all) lunches and dinners, and any venue/museum tickets or reservation fees.
It does not include your air travel or airport transfer on arrival and departure to/from the hotel, any special room service charges, gratuity for the guide or other service providers you may wish to tip, travel insurance, or the cost of any Covid testing.
