Historian in Granada
About Blanca

My name is Blanca Melga de Cárdenas, a historian, art historian, and professional cultural guide in Granada since 2015. Born in Asturias, in northern Spain, I came to Granada to study and, thirty-six years later, it has become my home.

My background in Psychology, Philosophy, and Art History has led me to specialize in art, aesthetics, and symbolic interpretation. In my tours, I invite travellers to look beyond the visible beauty of monuments and discover the meanings encoded in their decoration, architectural forms, spatial organization, and geometry.

I am particularly interested in how artistic and architectural languages conveyed ideas of faith, authority, identity, and power. In Granada, this approach opens a window onto the cultural complexity of medieval and early modern Iberia, shaped by encounters and changing relations among Muslim, Jewish, and Christian communities.

My aim is to help visitors read the city as a historical text: to recognize its visual codes, hidden meanings, and the beliefs and ambitions expressed through its art and architecture.
