Germany & Northern Europe Private and Small Group Walking Tours

Experience Europe’s cool northern lands
Germany and the countries of Northern Europe have played a major role in the continent and on the world stage. From German philosophers to Swedish playwrights to Dutch artists, their collective contribution to arts, culture, and politics has been significant.

Visit these northern countries to see more than just their heritage. Their unique locales, which range from smartly engineered canals to Alpine forests to Nordic archipelagos, highlight the region’s stunning natural beauty. And the many distinctive historical buildings, churches, and monuments—including many UNESCO World Heritage Sites—still found in many towns and cities help us get a sense of these countries’ long and storied past.

Victoria and I spent a most enjoyable day with Jurgen Morel in The Hague, Jurgen knew the area well, having lived in the Hague environs in his past, and provided a well of information about the places of government and the history of The Hague, making a nice "lesson" in comparative government. The afternoon wrapped up with a visit to art museum The Mauritshuis, The Mauritshuis, which shows Dutch painting from the age of Rembrandt and Vermeer. Among other things we were able to view among Vermeer's works in the Museum, the Girl with a Pearl Earring, several paintings by Rembrandt and, unexpectedly (to us) Carel Fabritius' The Goldfinch (of novel and movie fame). It was a great way to spend our last day of a long vacation in Europe.
Nina was exceptional. She crafted a tour to interest my two teenagers, my wife and myself. We all have drastically different interests and historical knowledge, yet Nina found a way to speak to each of us. Oh, and she did this thru constant rain! It wa snot supposed to rain yet it did nearly the entire tour. Somehow she kept us engaged and even lengthened the tour to make up for the slower pace due to the rain. 5 Stars!
Alette was an excellent guide! We enjoyed the tour very much! She was extremely knowledgeable and presented the museum to us very well. We learned about the development & progression of Van Gogh’s painting and how it related to his life. Fascinating!
