Start your walking tour beneath the gothic vaulted ceiling of the Stara Synagogue. The quiet sanctuary, one of Europe’s longest-surviving synagogues, will set the stage for powerful stories to come.

Walking up Szeroka Street, you'll find yourself straight in the heart of Krakow's Jewish quarter, Kazimierz, once a lively and bustling center of Jewish life in Krakow. You can still feel the old-world charm as you pass by buildings marked in Hebrew but mixed with a vibrant modern energy. Historic synagogues and centuries-old buildings stand alongside trendy cafés and artisan shops.

Depending on the day, you might step into a former prayer house turned bar, visit a local Jewish bookshop in search of a souvenir, or explore other synagogue interiors. Learn of the people who frequented these places, and recall a time when the local community was strong and growing, and Krakow was a popular hub of Jewish life.

You will make your way toward the Galicia Jewish Museum, where photography and art offer insight into Poland’s Jewish heritage. This space fosters both remembrance and education and calls to the forefront the stark reminder that the local Jewish population once reached nearly 70 thousand only to be wiped out entirely.

Does this tour visit the Oskar Schindler Factory?

No, this tour does not include the Oskar Schindler Factory; we recommend that guests reserve tickets to the Schindler Factory Museum directly on their website to visit on their own time.

Does this tour discuss WWII history?

While discussion of the war may come up during the tour, this experience is primarily focused on the general Jewish history of Kazimierz dating back centuries. It would be unavoidable to gloss over this era of time, but it is not the sole focus of the tour. This tour does not include a visit to Podgórze, the former ghetto during WWII.

Is there a dress code to respect when we visit synagogues?

Yes, please come in clothing that covers the shoulders and knees. Alternatively, you can bring a scarf or another change of clothes that you can wear before entering the visit at the synagogues.

Is this tour suitable for clients with mobility issues?

Yes, both the Stara Synagogue and Galicia Jewish Museum are wheelchair accessible. However, the streets of Krakow may be cobbled and can be uneven. If you have any mobility concerns, please email us to let us know and we can ensure the tour is adapted to you.

Are there any changes to the tour during inclement weather?

The essence of the tour remains the same, but we might adjust the route slightly to spend less time in open areas during heavy rain.
