Lillian grew up in the United States and began studying Japanese at a young age. She spent a few years living in Ireland, while she pursued her postgraduate degree, and upon graduation she moved to Osaka, where she has now been living and working for many years. Driven by her fascination with symbolism, Lillian was naturally drawn to the kanji characters, often finding herself thinking about how language is used to shape our thoughts and perceptions of the world. Through her Japanese language acquisition, she developed a love for the traditional art of calligraphy. Lillian's academic background is interdisciplinary. She holds a Graduate Diploma/Masters Degree in Mathematical Science from University College Dublin, Ireland and a BA in Mathematics with minors in Anthropology and Psychology from Western Washington University. During her graduate studies in Ireland she became a writer and editor. She is the former Science editor of the University Observer, a newspaper based in Dublin. Currently she writes for a variety of outlets in Japan including: Metropolis Magazine, Japan Today and GaijinPot. She strives to present Japanese culture in new and accessible ways to residents and curious travelers alike. Lillian is constantly weaving together stories that draw upon her unique educational background and experiences living around the world.
