Tour Description
Close your eyes and imagine Madrid a century ago. Two centuries. Five centuries! What was it like when this city was a Moorish fort? How did the city transform when it became the seat of the Castilian Crown? During this 2.5 hour Madrid for Kids private tour, we'll seek the answers to these questions and immerse ourselves in the history of the city, visiting the famed Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol. Our guides make Madrid's history come alive and teach children how to see a city through a new lens.

Beginning near the Opera House in central Madrid, our tour will take us back through time. We will start by learning about the founding of Madrid and discovering the vestiges of the Muslim settlement—its 9th century walls—where we’ll consider life during these primeval years and conceptualize how the walls might have been built. You will spend some time at the exterior of the refined Royal Palace, where you’ll consider the young princes and princesses who inhabited the castle.

Looking to learn more about Spain's princes and princesses through a different lens? Our Prado for kids tour covers the lives of young royals, among other themes found in the collection, through art.
You will also visit the Plaza Mayor, where you may imagine the various uses of the square over the centuries—it held markets, bullfights, and even soccer matches. You’ll envision what was sold in the shops that hide under the archways. You will make your way through the small back streets to the city’s current central square, Puerta del Sol, where you’ll also have a chance to talk about Madrid as it is today.

A Gift of Sweet Tradition

Your expert will guide your little ones' tastebuds through the sweet tradition of churros as a special treat to remember their day by. Churros are often enjoyed dipped in hot chocolate, creating a delicious and comforting snack. The tradition of serving churros with chocolate can be traced back to the 17th century, when chocolate first arrived in Spain from the Americas.

The sweet ending to a day of Madrid's history coming alive for the whole family, your kids will leave the tour with a new wonder for Madrid's current landscape and how it has evolved throughout its centuries of history.

Thanks.
While our guide was very nice, he was not well suited to guiding tours for kids. It was a definite mismatch.
First I really appreciated that Context got in touch the day before to connect us with the guide. Michael was truly amazing. He engaged with the kids right away and was flexible in adapting the order of the tour meet our needs. He made the content fun with games and questions. I had been to Madrid before and even I learned a lot from the tour.
