Pompeii offers kids an unparalleled view into ancient history. Frozen in time and wonderfully preserved, it is one of the few places in the world where ancient civilization comes to life so vividly. In this full-day Pompeii for Kids Tour, a day trip from Naples, we dive deeply into the ruins of Pompeii as well as the Archaeological Museum in Naples. This is a fantastic way to get the most out of a visit to Pompeii with kids.

Route Details

On the drive out to the site of Pompeii, our guide will provide historical background that will set up the context for understanding the site and what we will see later at the Archaeological Museum in Naples. Upon arriving, we will move swiftly through the ancient cobblestoned roads, exploring the homes, temples, shops, civic buildings, and public spaces that intricately illustrate everyday activities in the city. We will explore the similarities and differences between life in ancient Pompeii and modern-day family life.

Leaving the site by the early afternoon, we will return to Naples, by car, where we will enjoy lunch in a small, non-touristy restaurant in the city center, followed by a short stroll through the center, poking our head into a few churches and providing a short synopsis of the history of the city. The group will then head to the Naples Archeological Museum, one of the greatest collections of ancient art and artifacts in the world, where we will link back to connections with Pompeii while viewing the colorful frescoes, mosaics, and statues unearthed during the excavations, begun in the 18th century by envoys of the Bourbon kings of Naples. These artifacts provide vivid visual examples of the Pompeiians and their life, allowing for a full understanding of the culture of the time.

By the end of the excursion, the whole family will have gained a deeper understanding of the ancient site of Pompeii and its unmerciful fate. The kids can take back home unique and fun memories of long-gone history, and, naturally, some mouth-watering gelato as well.

Is the cost of lunch included?
It's not, you'll be responsible to cover for covering the cost of lunch for you and the expert.

What are skip-the-line tickets?

For this tour, your tickets are pre-purchased, which allows you to skip the ticket office line upon arrival at the venue. You may still have to wait in a security line or in a line to have your pre-purchased ticket scanned.

Is this tour walking-intensive, and/or wheelchair accessible?
This tour is accessible; however, it is useful for us to know about any mobility issues in advance, as clients with walking difficulties may have trouble at Pompeii. Pompeii has a special itinerary, “Pompeii for All”, which is designed for people with motor disabilities.

Can I be picked up from a location outside of Naples?
Yes, in most cases, we can arrange pickups from locations such as Amalfi, Positano, and Sorrento. Please let our team know when booking, and we’ll confirm availability and make the necessary arrangements

Fiorella is perfection! Her love of history and Naples shines through. Our family was thoroughly engaged as we walked and learned about Pompeii even in the record-breaking heat. Our family wanted to explore Naples as well so Fiorella pivoted seamlessly. Fiorella was wonderful with the children and the adults alike. She had so much interesting information to share, and she could answer all of our questions, even the obscure ones. Francesca was an amazing guide - my son was so excited for Pompeii and she took him to all the places he requested, including Caecalius’s house and the theater, among others. She was knowledgeable and flexible, spent longer than she planned with us in Pompeii and gave us an abbreviated but high yield tour of the archeological museum, which was definitely worthwhile after seeing the ruins.
