Tour Description
Meet Panos, your private guide and local Athenian.

Panos holds two Master's degrees in Archaeology of the Eastern Mediterranean and in International and European Relations. He has participated in archaeological excavations in Corfu and is a researcher on Human Migration at the University of Athens.

Join Panos on his favorite route through Athens on this full-day exploration of history and archaeology, highlighted by a tour of the Acropolis, and stops in of his favorite off-the-beaten-path neighborhoods.

The day begins at the Acropolis, the must-see monument that towers over central Athens. Panos will show you how Athens has evolved over millennia, tracing its history from construction to destruction, rediscovery to reconstruction.

On your way to the Acropolis Museum, you will take a short detour that will transport you to Santorini, Mykonos, or the idyllic Cyclades. You will explore the car-free cobblestoned alleys and picturesque passageways of the neighborhood of Anafiotika, an area that can’t be overlooked, with white-painted narrow streets and small houses.

The Acropolis Museum is the next stop, a spectacular work of architect Bernard Tschumi that houses a collection of relics gathered from the original Acropolis site.

After a typical Greek lunch nearby, you will explore the Kerameikos, Ancient Athens' oldest cemetery. Often overlooked by the crowds, this site is arguably one of the most important archaeological sites in Athens.

Finally, you will visit the Hill of Pnyx, the birthplace of modern democracy, before finishing your journey at the city's old economic hub, the Greek Agora.

As a first time visitor to Athens we felt it essential to have a a full day walking tour of the antiquities. Panos was the essential guide for our tour. His knowledge about the antiquities was exceptional. He was remarkable in communicating every facet of the entire historical timeline of the people who inhabited this area of Greece and the stories of what they left behind and their influence on Greece and the rest of the world. He answered every question with remarkable thoroughness and clarity. We highly recommend Panos and this tour.
Panos is a wonderful guide! He knew everything, was adaptable and rose to the occasion. My daughter and I had many offbeat questions; Panzos was flawless. We highly recommend the tour.
Our day touring Athens with Panos was without a doubt the best day of our entire trip to Greece. Panos is a truly extraordinary human being! For eight hours straight he shared with us his wealth of knowledge, his entertaining humor and his super high energy! It is a rare person who can connect with a retired English professor, a fifth-grade teacher and a teenager equally! All three of us were totally engaged the entire day, and we all walked away knowing that it was an absolute privilege to spend the day touring Athens with Panos!
