Tour Description
Join a local scholar for the perfect day in Florence. Alessandra will lead us on a tour of Florence’s artistic excellence - we’ll look at the greatest works of art of the Italian Renaissance in the Uffizi Gallery. And then experience a walk back through time as we explore the city center where these Renaissance artists lived and worked.Â

Born and raised in Florence, Alessandra holds a degree in art history from the University of Florence, with a specialization in seventeenth century painting. She then went on to obtain a master's degree from the European University Institute in Florence, where she defended her Ph.D. in history, focusing on the patronage of Tuscan nobility in Europe during the seventeenth century. She has been leading Context tours since 2012 and teaching art history and Italian in various schools and institutions across Florence.
Inspired Itinerary: Medici Treasures
Our experience begins with a three hour tour of the highlights in the Uffizi Gallery–including masterpieces by Giotto, Masaccio, Piero della Francesca, Filippo Lippi, Botticelli, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Tiziano, and Caravaggio. From there we begin our stroll through the four historical quarters of Florence to reach two of the city’s magnificent cathedrals–Santa Croce and Santa Maria Novella.Â
After a pause for lunch, Alessandra will lead us through the charming Oltrarno neighborhood to reach the Pitti Palace, the last mansion where the Medici family lived. Following a tour of their remarkable ballrooms and galleries, our day concludes in the magnificent Boboli garden with a panoramic view of the city.

What is included in the itinerary?
Florence Private Guide itineraries include the cost of your time with your private guide and usually include museum or monument entrance tickets. Lunch and refreshments are at your expense. Accommodation is not included. Â

Tours operate rain or shine, but in the case of inclement weather, your expert will modify the tour so more time is spent indoors. It never hurts to be prepared; we encourage keeping an eye on the weather and bringing along an umbrella, sunscreen, water, or a hat as needed.Â

No, unfortunately, due to venue reservation restrictions, we cannot accommodate groups larger than 9 people. If your group is larger, we recommend you split into multiple groups.
Meet Your Expert
Born and raised in Florence, Alessandra has a degree in art history from the University of Florence with a specialization in seventeenth-century painting. She obtained an Masters from the European University Institute in Florence, where she defended her Ph.D. in history, focusing on the patronage of Tuscan nobility in Europe during the seventeenth century. In addition, she holds a diploma in archival administration, paleography, and diplomatics from the State Archive in Florence. She has been teaching art history and Italian culture for several years in various schools and institutions in Florence and across Italy.

My son and I spent the most enjoyable day of our trip with Alessandra. Her knowledge and understanding of art, history, culture, and society was exactly what we were looking for in a tour. Allesandra was informative, professional and personable. In addition to an excellent tour, we enjoyed delightful lunch conversation.
Allesandra has a unique strategy. It goes something like this: There are thousands of pieces of art in the Uffifi and Pitti Palace. Rather than rushing through and trying to see all or most of them, she focuses on 10 or 12 of the true masterpieces and uses them to explain the remarkable evolution of Renaissance art in Florence. It was an exceptional way to understand Florence’s impact the arts.
Her love of art was infectious. We parted at the end of the day not simply with more knowledge of Renaissance art, but with a deeper appreciation of it.
