No. They limit their capacity, and it's not possible to skip the line, which means a long waiting time. The interior is also not overly impressive; we choose to focus on the exterior with its immense facades and interesting carvings.

Rita made Belém come alive: five stars! We took the Belém Tour: Jerónimos and Maritime Power with Rita, and she was a wonderful guide. She brought a depth of knowledge that my husband and I never would have gotten on our own. She explained the architectural details of the monastery and wove them seamlessly into the historical context, so everything we saw had meaning. What impressed me most was her clarity. Over the course of the tour she painted a picture of Portugal's history, and every detail connected to a bigger story. My husband was wearing a hat with the Portuguese national football team emblem, and Rita showed us that the same emblem appears in the monastery. Who knew rhinos and elephants once sailed back to Portugal as gifts for the kings? There's even a rhino carved into the gate! Rita has a warm, engaging personality and tons of energy, and she never wasted a minute of our time. She answered all our questions patiently, and she told us she is always studying Portugal's history so she can bring fresh, unique information to her tours. We highly recommend Rita and this tour!

Francisco is an excellent guide who has deep knowledge of Lisbon and Portuguese history. Our tour of Belém, “Jerónimos and Maritime Power”, was filled with insights about the personalities and events behind the sites we visited (centered on Belém Tower, adjacent monuments and the Jerónimos Monastery).
