Salzburg Sound of Music Tour
Separate film legend from the real Von Trapp family story
On this Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg, we will visit several sites that appear in this Oscar-winning film, but we will also take some time to dig into the history of the movie. As we take in the impressive views of Mirabell Gardens or Mondsee and the lakes, we’ll address a variety of topics, from the Habsburg Empire to the political backdrop of WW2 and the role of the Nazis and the Anschluss. We’ll also discuss the reasons why this film took off in certain parts of the world and not others (unbeknownst to many, the majority of Austrians have never seen the film). This tour focuses on the real Von Trapp family as a lens into the history of this period, examining the impact of the movie on a little city like Salzburg.
NOTE: This tour includes a car service that will pick you up at your accommodation. Please tell us your hotel or apartment address in the 'Additional Details' box while adding the tour to your shopping cart.

Don’t just take our word for it
Our guide Igor made this tour so personalized and took our requests into account as he planned a special tour that included traveling to outlying countryside and seeing some of the place that were used for making the movie. It was truly an amazing morning with some fun surprises along the way. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in more “behind the scenes” information as well as an understanding of the political pressures that existed. It was truly a highlight of our visit!
I thoroughly enjoyed my Salzburg Sound of Music Tour. Michaela was a wonderful tour guide and gave such great information. I appreciated the ability to ask questions and get answers. A small private tour was exactly what I received and wanted. Thank you.
