Itinerary Detail

We will begin our journey in the Valley of the Temples to help familiarize ourselves with the ancient urban layout of Agrigento; its main streets, fortifications, and sacred buildings dedicated to the Olympian Gods. Each temple presents its own unique and singular characteristics.

In particular, your expert guide, trained in archaeology or history, will discuss the importance of the Temple of Concord and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. The remains of the former, built around 450 B.C., including its inner structure and cellar, were the location of the divinity. The latter, whose construction began around 480 B.C., is perhaps the largest Doric temple ever built.

At the conclusion of your visit to the Archaeological Site, a taxi will return you and your guide to the Temple of Juno, where our walk began.

Salvatore was generous in sharing both his knowledge and enthusiasm for the Valley of the Temples. He observed pace for the varied ages in our family 24-82 yo. And went into both historical context where needed as well as pointed out details that we could have easily missed. Would gladly revisit with him

The Valley of the Temples is nothing short of magical! Our guide, Salvatore, with his incredible knowledge of history, archaeology and Sicily made the two hours fly by. We learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed our time with Salvatore!

This was our fifth private tour with Context Tracel in Italy. As with the others, our guide Nicoletta exceeded all our expectations in knowledge and delivery of her tour for us. We came away from the Valley of the Temples with a great understanding of the Greek settlement of Sicily and the temples and how they were built. Highly recommended.
