Tour Description
The experiences of most children may differ considerably from what it's like to grow up in a city like Tokyo, with its electric lights, noisy arcades, and vibrant otaku culture. Is this place truly like the animes we watch? Your expert will illustrate what it's like to be a kid in Tokyo today during this tour by delving into the worlds of anime, arcades, and manga.
Our tour takes place in the Ikebukuro district, the center for entertainment and popular culture in Japan. The sights and sounds of Ikebukuro provide ample material for us to explore during our journey into contemporary Japanese life. You will explore the significance of video games and mangas in Japanese society by visiting the GIGO Amusement Centre, with its brightly colored Gachapon and claw machines.
The tour may bring you to Sunshine City, where you can indulge in some delightful treats, or you could spend some time daydreaming at the Pokemon and Disney Stores. Did you say anime? Don't worry, you will visit Animate, Japan's largest anime building: a full immersion spread over 7 floors of figurines, costumes, magazines, and collectibles.

Susan was super great with the children, and I appreciated that she reached out ahead of time to get the children's interests.

Susan is a great guide. We saw a lot of things we wouldn't have known about otherwise – the dog café was a surprise hit. Susan was also a big help pointing out restaurants. Made Tokyo just a little bit less overwhelming, and a lot more fun.
