A lake can be many things at once, frontier, retreat, inspiration. Lake Garda has played all these roles, and more. With private transport from Verona and a local expert at your side, the day unfolds at your pace, shaped around what draws you in most.

Sirmione stretches into the water like a slender finger, guarded by its medieval castle and crowned by the vast ruins of the Grotte di Catullo. Walk cobbled lanes as shopkeepers lift their shutters and espresso cups clink against saucers. What did Roman elites see here that made them build one of northern Italy’s grandest villas on this very tip of land?

Then the perspective shifts. Step into a private wooden boat, prebooked and waiting, and glide past the Penisola di Sirmione, the Rocca di Manerba, Isola dei Conigli, Isola del Garda, the Golfo di Salò, Fasano, and Gardone. From the water, fortifications and villas tell a continuous story of power, pleasure, and reinvention.

Over centuries, poets and artists have tried to put this light into words, from Catullus to Goethe, from Dante to Maria Callas, who once made her home along these shores. An optional private visit to Isola del Garda opens palace rooms and terraced gardens, ending with an aperitivo that feels quietly celebratory. By day’s end, the lake no longer feels like a postcard, but like a place you understand from the inside.
