Thomas Vauthier is a French artist, art historian, and curator based in Kyoto for the past four years. Holding a Ph.D. from Aix-Marseille University and Kyoto City University of the Arts, focused on modern and contemporary artistic practices in Japan, he combines academic depth with hands-on experience in cultural mediation, hospitality, and guiding. His interests range from Japanese art history and traditional aesthetics to tea culture, craft, architecture, and everyday life in Kyoto. He has guided international visitors through exhibitions, performances, and cultural spaces in both France and Japan, and enjoys helping guests discover Kyoto as a layered city shaped by history, ritual, design, and lived experience.
