Segesta Archaeological Site Tour

Explore Sicily’s iconic open-air amphitheater

The Finer Details
The legend says that the city of Segesta was founded by the Elymians, an ancient civilization descended from refugees from Troy. The city flourished as a prosperous trading hub in the 5th century BC, engaging with both the Carthaginians and the Greeks. Visit its iconic theatre and remarkable temples with the guidance of a local archaeologist or historian.

Route Details

You will start your tour at the entrance of the Archeological Site, where you'll hike up Monte Barbaro to visit the ancient city and marvel at the breathtaking theatre and Doric temple.

You will ascend following a small path alongside the Gola del Torrente, reaching the summit where the ancient city once thrived. You will enjoy the stunning views over the modern city of Castellammare del Golfo.

You’ll also explore the medieval castle and the mosque before descending toward Segesta’s famed temple. Along the way, your expert guide will introduce you to the Southern Acropolis, where you’ll encounter niches carved into the rock, believed to have been used for hero cults.

Ending at the magnificent 5th-century temple, one of the best-preserved in the Mediterranean, you will gain a deeper understanding of Segesta’s significant role in ancient history.
