Tour Description
Vienna is never more magical and sparkling than during the winter holidays when the city is strung with lights and dotted with festive markets. In the company of a local culinary expert and food anthropologist, our 2.5-hour seasonal Vienna Christmas market tour introduces you to the flavors and smells of an authentic European Christmas.

Festive Viennese Spirit

We will visit the Christmas Village in Vienna’s former general hospital, now the campus for the social sciences and humanities of the University of Vienna. The quiet corners of this cozy local Christmas market give plenty of opportunities to pause and savor the various regional specialties that are only available during the holiday season. The markets offer a wide selection of savory dishes, and the main tastings will include a selection of roast potatoes or potato specialties, roast chestnuts, soup, or sausages – enough to sate large appetites or share with friends or family.

Warm Up with Sweet Treats

Along with our expert guide, a food anthropologist and culinary enthusiast, you will sip warm beverages like punch or Glühwein (mulled wine) while nibbling gingerbread, Christmas cookies, and various sweets. There will also be pastry specialties like Baurenkrapfen, Langos, Baumkuchen, or Schneebälle (based on availability and preference) to taste. Afterward, a goodie bag of favorites to take home will keep the holiday spirit alive - including a souvenir Christmas market mug as a keepsake of the experience. There will also be the option available for those who want to linger and browse around the market, which offers a wonderful variety of small handcrafted items such as soap, candles, ceramic ornaments, and wool accessories.

Ready to warm up inside one of Vienna's fantastic museums? We have plenty of other Vienna tours to help you enjoy the best of the city, like at the Kunsthistorisches Museum or a Schönbrunn Palace tour.
