We were more than happy with having David as our guide in Salzburg. It was a very cold morning wandering the narrow and historical alleys and paths on both sides of the river. But it went by quickly because of the conversations with David. He ensured we saw the must sees. More importantly we not only got the historical backgrounds of these sites, we got to see the in-between places and paths with social, economic, and historical contexts. From the dominance of the Archbishops, the Jewish history, the two wars, the emergence of Austrian identity, to today’s Austrian society, we felt that we got more than a tour. It was more like a crash course that made us want to research and learn more. We felt that we now know Salzburg and Austria a little better. In addition, he was patient and flexible. The fog was so dense that he recommended reshuffling our tour so that we got more walking tour experience before he walked us to the funicular for the fortress at the end of our time with him. Through and through we had an excellent tour with an excellent guide.
