We had an amazing tour at the Van Gogh Museum. My son and I enjoyed an early afternoon tour with Maja that was so memorable. She was both knowledgeable and friendly and did such a fantastic job gearing the tour towards my teenager. She worked hard to convey the history of Van Gogh and other artists and relate it to modern times. She was able to weave Van Gogh’s life so thoughtfully into all of the art and exhibits. She was incredibly generous with her time and paced the visit so well. She was so good at pointing out how the special exhibits were related to the rest of the museum and made the tour as interactive as possible. Despite having previously visited the museum myself, it was like visiting a brand new museum with all of her knowledge on the tour. We highly recommend this visit and it would be a bonus if your tour was with Maja.

Having a tour of Van Gogh with Agnes was such a valuable and illuminating experience! There are so many stories of Van Gogh in popular culture - along with a few select works of his - that can create a one-dimensional image of the artist. Agnes dispelled all these myths, using (but not relying on) the Museum to help us understand the emotional and psychological evolution and motivations of Van Gogh over the course of his life and how it was manifested in his art (most prominently in the last 10 years of his life). She also did a great job of explaining why Van Gogh became part of the art historical canon - and pop culture mythology. She made visiting the Museum a true learning experience!
