Frances grew up in the Highlands of Scotland, but later studied and worked In London, so feels at home in both environments - Britain’s great cities, as well as her beautiful countryside.

Frances’ education is equally broad, ranging from Classics, and English literature to art history, ancient & modern languages (BA Hons), to world history (MA in prog), European economics, politics, history & law (DUEFE, University of Lille, France) to food and wine tasting (WSET-Higher Certificate) -- so also feels at home in almost any subject.

During a long & successful career in travel journalism, she learnt not just how to find, craft and tell a great story, but also the priceless value of a great guide - having hired 100s herself. Travelling in nearly 100 countries & studying around 10 languages, she also acquired an international perspective, and an ability to relate to people of all nationalities, creeds & races.

Frances’ personal ethos is to bring out the best of every place, to inform but also to inspire, to treat guests like her own friends, and to look after them like her own family.
