Tim H.

Historian in London
About Tim

Tim Hochstrasser is Associate Professor of International History at LSE where he lectures on early modern European political and cultural history. He was educated and has also taught at the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford. He is particularly interested in the Enlightenment Era (18th century) and the relationships between ideas and politics. But he believes that the connections between events and ideas can only be fully understood by taking seriously the architecture, town planning, design, art history and music history within any period. He tries to reflect this holistic approach to history in his writings and teaching. He has lived and worked in London for many years and regularly takes groups of students out on London walks and expeditions to galleries and museums so that they can experience the architecture of material culture of the city first hand.

Away from his main job, Tim is also a keen follower of all the performing arts and regularly reviews plays, opera, musicals, ballet and contemporary dance: https://playstosee.com/author/timhochstrasser/ He is very happy to advise clients on the shows, concerts and exhibitions that are running during their stay which might engage with their interests.

Above all, he loves sharing his enthusiasms, and nurturing and encouraging the enthusiasm of others.
