We met our guide Maja near the entrance of the Rijksmuseum for what proved to be a great lesson in Dutch art. Maja was so knowledgeable about Dutch art and provided a group of novices with a great introduction to the great Dutch artists, their techniques and how to appreciate them. Afterwards she had made lunch reservation at a very popular restaurant where we enjoyed some good Dutch cuisine. Following the lunch, we had a very enjoyable private canal cruise during which Maja provided the history what we saw from the boat. It was hard at times to listen to her helpful history because we so distracted by the views from the boat. A beautiful introduction in many ways to Amsterdam.

Don’t just take our word for it
We had a great day with Timm. She is very knowledgeable in both history and art. We would have missed so much had we been at the museum without her! The private boat tour on the canal was great as well. The Captain was very friendly and fun to be with. We have never been disappointed with a Context tour!
We spent a remarkable day with Sabry in Amsterdam. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of art history, as well as of the relevant broader historical, cultural and social contexts in which the art was created. And he is able to convey that knowledge in a manner that is accessible and fascinating. He’s also a pleasure to spend time with, and we had many great conversations in which he answered our endless questions. The trip on the canal boat was also great, as it gives an entirely different perspective on the city.
