We’ll visit the estates of two local winemakers and take in the views of the rolling hills amidst the valley. Itinerary Details

After being picked up at your accommodation in Porto by your Private car and expert guide, you'll begin the day enjoying a leisurely drive while getting to know your expert and the agenda for the day as you head to your first Douro Valley estate.   Your first stop will be an independently owned vineyard where you'll learn the whole process from grape to bottle and enjoy a tasting of a variety of their wines. You may even get to try the homemade olive oil they produce on the estate as well.  We will make a stop for lunch (at one's own expense) at a local restaurant where your expert will be happy to make recommendations to experience the local cuisine.

We'll continue our wine journey after lunch as we visit a top winery in Douro Valley, to learn about and taste the port wines on offer at the estate. We might learn how to pick out flavors, speak about harvests, or discuss the key differences between different ages and processes. You'll drive back to your Porto accommodation well-wined and brimming with your new-found learnings about Douro Valley wines and the history of the region.

FAQ

Where do we meet? Where does it end?
The expert and driver will pick you up and drop you off at your accommodations in Porto.

What if it’s raining?
Tours operate rain or shine, but in the case of inclement weather, your expert will modify the tour so more time is spent indoors. It never hurts to be prepared; we encourage keeping an eye on the weather and bringing along an umbrella, sunscreen, water, or a hat as needed.

What is included in the tour price?
The wine tastings are reserved in advance and paid for by Context. Your lunch cost is not included in the tour price and is at your own expense.

Is this suitable for children and/or travelers with mobility challenges?
We don't recommend this tour for children as its itinerary focuses on the wine country of Douro Valley. For mobility concerns, with the private car we can likely adapt the route to your needs and would be happy to discuss it further with you. The wineries do not have stairs, though it is largely dirt cobblestone paths which would be difficult for wheelchair users.

Maria Joao was a wonderful guide. She is so knowledgeable about Portuguese wines, food, restaurants. We really enjoyed the day with her! The Douro Valley is beautiful. The small family vinery we visited was interesting and had excellent wines. We could have spent a week with her! Highly recommend!
