Ian was absolutely exceptional and easily one of the best tour guides we’ve had in our travels through Europe. My 20-year-old daughter and I spent three hours walking around Lisbon with him this morning, and we were completely captivated from beginning to end. Ian has graduate degrees in archaeology, and his depth of knowledge is extraordinary. What made the experience so special, though, was his ability to weave together European history, Portuguese history, archaeology, art, architecture, and culture into fascinating stories that brought Lisbon to life. He has a wonderful way of explaining complicated subjects that is both engaging and accessible. Ian also has an impressive understanding of Lisbon today, not just its past. He gave us fascinating insight into local politics, zoning, development, and the changes taking place in the city. He also has a terrific creative and tasteful eye, and his recommendations for restaurants, shopping, and places to explore reflected a real understanding of what makes Lisbon special.
