She covered an amazing number of pieces of art with great historical context, while ensuring we saw the Louvre highlights. Well worth the cost.

Louvre Highlights Tour with the Mona Lisa
Get an expert's perspective on the world's largest art collection

Each Context expert has their own preferred route to touch upon the most celebrated works the Louvre has to offer. We may begin with the Italian Renaissance and stand before Leonardo’s Mona Lisa. Why does this small portrait command such global attention, even in a crowded room? By placing her among contemporaries, we see not only a face, but a turning point in how artists imagined humanity.
From there, the journey widens to ancient history. Sculptures and artifacts ground us in the civilizations that shaped Western art, from Mesopotamia to Greece. These works are not isolated relics. They form the foundations that later painters and rulers studied, borrowed, and sometimes challenged.
We’ll shift the lens again, this time to French painting and sculpture. Royal patronage, revolution, and empire unfold across canvases and marble. What happens to art when regimes rise and fall? Here, we connect brushstrokes to politics and aesthetics to ambition.

Don’t just take our word for it
We toured 'The Louvre with the Mona Lisa' as our guide, Caroline, expertly covered some intriguing historical facts about the Louvre itself as well as the artwork. We saw the pyramid entrance but also walked through the actual moat surrounding the original palace. Caroline described the history of the building, taking us back through time as different sections were built and why. She contextualized each aspect. We continued our journey from the most early artworks to iconic pieces like the Venus de Milo, Da Vinci paintings, Egyptian Antiquities and, of course, the Mona Lisa. Caroline expertly alighted on each aspect with a thorough description of all. Even as there is so much to see, she was able to condense our visit to give a a great overview during our tour. Thank you! Bruce and Robin
Tina is incredibly knowledgeable and a brilliant, articulate tutor making the French Renaissance and French Revolutions unfold before our eyes in the Louvre. Tina's expertise helped us navigate and focus on the sculptures and paintings that recorded and shaped the French Renaissance and the foundations of one of the world's truly greatest, creative, sophisticated civilizations although there was a lot of violent battles, conquering and sadistic bloodthirstiness along the way. The architecture and the artwork of the Louvre is breathtaking. We feel privileged to visit and be informed by such an exceptional and delightful Art Historian.
