Discover the ancient Greek port city Marseille, Cezanne's birthplace Aix-en Provence and lastly the beauteous Cassis on this full-day tour with an expert guide and driver. We will expand our knowledge of this fascinating region and drive through some of southern France's most beautiful stretches of coastline: it's a perfect day trip for lovers of history, culture, and beautiful coastal views.

We'll meet our guide and driver at your accommodation in Marseille before we begin our day together. Our route may vary on the day, but we tend to start our tour with a visit to the highest point in Marseilles - Notre Dame de la Garde. We'll experience the breathtaking views of the city, Vieux Ports and surrounding Frioul islands before driving on to visit the Village of le Panier - the oldest in France and home to a multitude of artists and sculptures. We'll delve behind the scenes of the artistic process and may enter some of the art and ceramic workshops. From le Panier, we will trail down to the Old Port where we will visit the traditional fish market and learn about the local cuisine, then stop for a local lunch (at own expense). 

After a tasty lunch, we may take a stroll down Fort St. Jean whilst learning of its historical importance and (possibly) making a stop at the Museum of Mediterranean and European cultures. We'll leave Marseille behind as we drive and stop at Aix-en-Provence, an artistic enclave revered for its 17th and 18th-century architecture and, of course, Paul Cezanne. We'll soak up the Old Town and a local Provencial market before moving on to our final destination, the charming town of Cassis. We may start off with an exploration atop the towering cliffs of Cap Canaille, taking in the spectacular view of vineyards, mountains, and the coastal line while learning of Cassis acclaimed wine trade. We'll continue our drive along a gorgeous coastal path (Crest Road) as we soak up the views of the traditional and provincial architecture that lines the coast. Our tour will end with a pleasant walk down to the town port where you have the option to take a 45-minute boat ride exploring Les Calanques and the stunning limestone rock formations 'fjords of the French Riviera'. We'll drive back to Marseille where the tour ends.

Tours operate rain or shine, but in the case of inclement weather, your expert will modify the tour so more time is spent indoors. It never hurts to be prepared; we encourage keeping an eye on the weather and bringing along an umbrella, sunscreen, water, or a hat as needed.
