Tour Description
We’ll begin by looking at the history of Barcelona and the growth of the city, exploring the work of urban planner Ildefons Cerda, whose 1859 “enlargement” laid out the modern city. With this architectural context as a backdrop, we’ll make our way through the heart of Barcelona to see two of Gaudí's masterpieces: the Casa Milà (also known as La Pedrera), where we’ll explore its fantastical exterior, and the Casa Batlló, on the Block of Discord, where we’ll spend time on its roof and the apartment inside.

During the course of this Gaudí architecture tour, we’ll also look at the works of some of Gaudí’s followers and rivals, including buildings by Puig i Cadafalch and Domènech i Montaner. We will discuss these Modernista architects’ influence on Gaudí, and look at how they wove their unique points of view and inspirations into their finished designs. By the end, we’ll have insight into Barcelona’s aesthetic evolution and what led Gaudí to deliberately construct fantastical buildings that fight against the modern grid.
  • You want an introduction to Barcelona's most important architect, Antoni Gaudí, and see some of his most important sites including Casa BatllĂł (interior) and Casa MilĂ  (exterior)
  • Please note that this tour does not include GaudĂ's Parc GĂĽell or Sagrada Familia. If you are interested in viewing these sites with us, you may enjoy our Sagrada Familia Tour, or our Full-Day GaudĂ Barcelona Tour.

Is this tour appropriate for children?
For young children (ages 3-12) we recommend our shorter Gaudi Tour for Kids, which is led by experts specially trained in educating children.

What are skip-the-line tickets?
For this tour, your tickets are pre-purchased which allows you to skip the ticket office line upon arrival at the venue. You may still have to wait in a security line or in a line to have your pre-purchased ticket scanned.

What is the difference between a Small Group and a Private Tour?
Context Travel offers both Private and Small Group Tours. Private tours are booked between your party and a local expert, where you'll be given a private tour of the venue. Small Groups are similar to what you might associate with a typical "walking tour." Capped at a maximum of six per group, you'll be joined by other travelers who have purchased the same tour and tour the venue as a group.

Both offer the same Context experience — an incredibly unique, deep dive into a place or subject led by a world-class expert in their field showing you the highlights of iconic venues alongside hidden gems and surprising stories.

She was fantastic! High energy, funny and so great with kids! I’d definitely recommend her to friends!
Jaume was an excellent guide. He shared a lot of broader Barcelona history to set the stage before we got into the Gaudi architecture and Casa Batllo tour. He made our experience fun and interactive, even making little games and awarding points if we guessed correctly about things being discussed. (I won even though he tried to give 100 catch up points to my husband - ha!). We would totally recommend this tour and especially Jaume.
Excellent guide, knowledgable, prepared, patient.
