Our tour with Suleyman was the first thing we did in Istanbul and that was a great choice! Suleyman was a charismatic and knowledgeable host—he clearly has a passion for history and sharing that with others. Not only did we see the Haggia Sofia and Blue Mosque, but I expressed interest in seeing the cisterns so Suleyman took us through there as well. He also gave us a great lunch recommendation for after our tour. We ended up running into Suleyman at the market on the Asian side the next day, which made Istanbul seem like a much smaller city and just that much more familiar. Thank you Suleyman for a great first day in Istanbul—we could listen to you teach us about Turkey forever!

My husband and I so enjoyed our half day tour with Betül! This tour was the perfect way to orient ourselves to Turkish cuisine, and also learn how Turkish people live and eat in Istanbul. Betül was a great host, and her background is so interesting! She shared some of her experiences working with an archeologist with us, and we enjoyed speaking with her about her travels to the US as well. Thanks to this tour we tried foods we likely wouldn’t have tried ourselves, including an intestine sandwich that was actually my favorite bite of the day. Betül also gave us some restaurant recommendations for the rest of our time in Istanbul, and those didn’t disappoint either! Highly recommend this tour for foodies or anyone who wants to learn more about Turkish culture. Thank you for everything Betül!
Claire was knowledgeable and kind, a joy to spend the morning with at the Bazaar. We really enjoyed our tour and enjoyed getting to see Istanbul through the eyes of a local.
Istanbul Tours
Best for First-Time Visitors
These experiences introduce the monuments many travelers come to see first, while helping connect them to the deeper story of Constantinople, Ottoman Istanbul, and the modern city around them.
Best for Byzantine & Ottoman History
- Hidden Traces of the Byzantine Empire with Chora Church
- Topkapi Palace Tour
- Istanbul Ottoman Architecture Tour
These tours explore how imperial power expressed itself through mosaics, domes, courtyards, mosques, palaces, and sacred spaces. With a historian or architectural expert, the city’s famous monuments begin to speak to each other.
Best for Food, Markets & Trade
Markets, ferries, spices, street food, and family-run stalls reveal how trade still shapes the city’s daily rhythm. Food becomes a way to understand migration, empire, neighborhood identity, and the Bosphorus itself.
Best for Neighborhood Exploration & Local Life
Beyoglu introduces a more modern, cosmopolitan Istanbul shaped by embassies, cafés, cinemas, churches, shops, and political gatherings. Across the Bosphorus, Kadikoy and the Asian side reveal a different rhythm of local markets, waterfront life, and neighborhood culture.
