During this 3 hour Barcelona architecture tour of some of Gaudí's famous works, we’ll introduce the fantastic architecture of the city's most important architect, Antoni Gaudí, known as the master of Catalan modernism, and more colorfully, "God's Architect." In the company of an expert guide, we’ll visit some of Gaudí's most important sites, including the Casa Batlló (with skip-the-line tickets), and contextualize his work within the history of the city and his contemporaries.
Explore Gaudí's Architecture in Barcelona
We’ll begin by looking at the history of Barcelona and the growth of the city, exploring the work of urban planner Ildefons Cerda, whose 1859 “enlargement” (Eixample, in Catalan) laid out the modern city. With this architectural context as a backdrop, we’ll make our way through the heart of Barcelona to see two of Gaudí's masterpieces: the Casa Milà (also known as La Pedrera), where we’ll explore its fantastical exterior, and the Casa Batlló, on the Block of Discord, where we’ll spend time on its roof and the apartment inside.
Gaudí's Architecture with an Expert
During the course of this Gaudí architecture tour, we’ll also look at the works of some of Gaudí’s followers and rivals, including buildings by Puig i Cadafalch and Domènech i Montaner. Led by a local art and architecture expert guide, we’ll discuss these Modernista architects’ influence on Gaudí, and look at how they wove their unique points of view and inspirations into their finished designs. By the end, we’ll have insight into Barcelona’s aesthetic evolution and what led Gaudí to deliberately construct fantastical buildings that fight against the modern grid.
FAQ About the Gaudí Architecture Tour
What is a private tour?
Our private tours are limited exclusively to travelers in your party. They are designed to provide a learning experience that is completely tailored to you and your traveling companions. Private tours give you more flexibility with scheduling (you decide when the walk best fits in your trip), the ability to tailor your itinerary (we'll work to match the itinerary to the interests and dynamics of your group), and more personalized time with your guide.
What is a small group tour?
Our small group tours cover many of the same itineraries as our private tours, but they place you with other travelers in groups of 6 or less. They operate on a pre-scheduled calendar, and are designed to provide an opportunity to engage with and learn from other travelers. Most of our small group tours require at least 3 participants to run, although there is some variation between tours. As you sign up for a tentative tour, we display the minimum number required in order to confirm.
